The Africana Studies Department invites you to join us for a virtual event with Special Guest, Dr. Julius Garvey, who will discuss the Global Campaign to gain a posthumous pardon for the Honorable Marcus Garvey from President Biden.

Marcus Garvey was an outstanding and influential civil rights and human rights leader. His global movement for racial and economic justice is legendary. The case against him was politically motivated, judicially compromised and totally lacking in evidence. His conviction and imprisonment for 3 years were therefore cruel and unjust. A Posthumous Presidential Pardon will exonerate him of wrongdoing and begin to right the wrong committed against him and his family. Learn more at the Grio: Marcus Garvey’s son continues fight to clear his name through presidential pardon.

Additionally, during the discussion Dr. Garvey will touch on the great works of Marcus Garvey and the organization he founded, the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).
