Preparing To Return To Campus | August 19, 2021

Dear Colleagues:

I hope you are having an enjoyable and productive summer. As we get closer to the Fall 2021 semester and welcoming many of our students and colleagues back to campus, I wanted to be sure you are aware of a new campus communication called Matadors Forward. Please regularly check your email for communications from Matadors Forward for updates on fall planning, safety protocols, areas to eat on campus, parking information and engagement opportunities. Also, please visit the MATADORS FORWARD website for the latest guidance and information, including updated employee FAQs.

Additionally, I want to highlight a few items for you:

Vaccinations -

Per the CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Interim Policy, faculty, staff and student employees working on campus will need to provide certification of full vaccination status or request a medical or religious exemption no later than September 30, 2021. While the meet and confer process with our union partners is still in progress, we encourage employees to voluntarily complete the certification as soon as possible to allow you to opt out of the required CSUN weekly COVID-19 testing.

You may provide this self-certification or request an exemption through the myNorthridge Portal. Once logged into the portal, under the Policies and Procedures pagelet of the Faculty or Staff tab, select the EE Vaccine Self-Certification link and complete the form accordingly. Employees who are not assigned to teach or work on campus during the Fall 2021 semester and will not be coming to campus for any purpose may request an exemption through this same form.

COVID-19 Testing -

Faculty, staff and student employees who do not self-certify that they have been fully vaccinated by the fall semester or who have been provided a medical or religious exemption to the vaccination policy will be required to participate in free weekly COVID-19 testing before coming to campus.

A negative COVID-19 test will need to be received up to seven days prior to the start of classes (August 30, 2021) and then weekly thereafter. Weekly testing will be at no cost to employees and conducted during work hours. Faculty, staff, and student employees will be able to select if they prefer to test on campus or conduct their test at home.

  • On campus testing – on campus testing will be available Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at kiosks located near the Extended University Commons and University Student Union (USU) Freudian Sip. Please see map for details. Test results will be provided 24 - 48 hours after test date.
  • Testing from home – Fulgent will provide at home employee test kits. The test kits will be mailed to the homes of employees for self-administration and then employees will drop off the test sample at any FedEx location. Test results will be provided 24 - 48 hours after the lab receives the mailed test kit.

You may select your preferred testing option by completing this Testing form. Should you have any questions please reach out to employeecovidtesting@csun.edu.

Safety Protocols -

All employees returning to campus have a collective responsibility to conduct their work in a manner that promotes their personal health and safety, as well as that of their co-workers and students. You will be responsible for:

  • Training – be sure to complete CSUN’s Online Return to Campus Training Module before performing any work on campus
  • Self-screening survey - you will need to conduct a self-screening survey before coming to campus each day. The self-screening survey is available on the CSUN app, and Employee Health Screening Survey
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Wear a face covering (mask) indoors
  • Wash hands regularly

Reporting COVID Cases -

If you believe you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or have tested positive for COVID-19 please complete the Faculty and Staff Self-Reporting Form.

Our HR team will then reach out to you to assist with quarantine guidelines, leave of absence, if needed, and start the contact tracing process with the Klotz Student Health Center.

COVID Leaves -

COVID-related leaves are available for employees for varying qualifications including time to quarantine or while seeking a diagnosis. For more information, please select Expanded COVID-19 Related Leaves (ECRL) from the accordion menu on the following website https://www.csun.edu/hr/covid-19-resources-faculty-staff-mpp-employees.

N95 Respirators -

Any unvaccinated employee will be provided with a N95 respirator upon request after completing associated training. To request the N95 respirator, please complete N95 Respirator Voluntary Use Request Form.

Should you have any questions, please reach out to Human Resources, Employee Relations at er@csun.edu or 818-677-6566.

Lastly, Human Resources staff are currently on-campus to assist you with any in-person needs you may have. I encourage you to make an appointment when possible to ensure someone is available to assist you. I wish you a safe and successful Fall 2021 semester.

Sincerely,

Kristina
