CSUN wishes all students a healthy and safe spring break and urges you to take the following precautions to protect yourself from Coronavirus/COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Stay Connected

CSUN will continue to monitor the response to COVID-19 and will provide updates as new information becomes available.

Personal Care

  • The Klotz Student Health Center is open during spring break and appointments are available.  Please call (818) 677-3666 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
  • Use the time to rest, reduce stress, and strengthen your immune system.
  • Practice healthy eating and avoid misuse of alcohol and drugs.
  • Practicing good hand hygiene is still the best way to protect yourself from any infectious disease.
    • Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds.
    • Apply hand sanitizer often.
    • Try not to touch or rub your eyes, nose, or mouth.
    • Stop shaking hands with others to reduce the spread of germs.
    • Sneeze or cough into the inside of your arm or tissue.  Safely throw away the tissue and wash your hands thoroughly.
    • Stay 6 feet away from strangers or anyone who is ill.
    • Get a flu shot if you haven’t had one this season.
    • If you do become ill, especially with a fever of 100.4 or more, cough, and/or shortness of breath, avoid close contact less than six feet with others and call a doctor.
    • Individuals at higher risk should review the following preventive measures:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html

Prevent the Spread

According to the CDC, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces.  Cleaning and disinfection of visibly dirty surfaces is a best practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 in households.  Keep reading to learn what you can do to limit the survival of the virus in your environment.

Perform daily cleansing and disinfecting of “high-touch” surfaces in commonly shared areas, such as:

  • Sinks
  • Desks
  • Toilets
  • Tables
  • Handles
  • Doorknobs
  • Light switches
  • Remote controls
  • Hard-backed chairs
  • Computer/laptop keyboards
  • If possible, use disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting these surfaces and wash your hands after removing the gloves.  Do not re-use gloves.
  • Clean visibly dirty surfaces with a detergent or soap prior to disinfection.
    • DISINFECTION: kills germs on surfaces. A diluted bleach solution disinfects and can be prepared by mixing 1/3 cup of bleach per gallon of water OR 4 teaspoons of bleach per quart of water.
      * Follow manufacturer’s instructions for use and proper ventilation when using disinfecting chemicals. NEVER MIX BLEACH WITH AMMONIA or any other cleanser.

Continue to practice the basics:

  • For at least 20 seconds, wash hands often, including:
    • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
    • After using the restroom
    • Before eating or preparing food
    • After contact with animals or pets

Travel and Entertainment

If you plan to travel, monitor travel advisories regularly.  Travel into and out of some countries, including reentry to the U.S., could be restricted.  Flights may also be cancelled.
