CSUN DoGS Graduate Student Helps Design New GSA Marine and Coastal Geoscience Logo

Graduate student Erin Schmitt submitted a design for GSA's Marine and Coastal Geoscience Division's call for inspiration to create a new logo in early 2020. Aspects of her design were incorporated into the final logo design, which will be used for years to come. See More

AUGUST FIELD FROLIC CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Dear, alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the CSUN Department of Geological Sciences. I regret to inform you that due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to cancel our 2020 Fall Field Frolic scheduled for August 13-16 in Long Valley Caldera in eastern California. For the safety of all those involved, we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to postpone the trip until a later date. We will let you know when the next field frolic will take place. Geology Faculty Receive DoD Grant for Developing GeoAnalytical Center

Congratulations to Drs. Hauswirth, Ganguli, Cotton, Evans, Schwartz, Cecil, and Lozos on the awarding of a $600,000 U.S. Department of Defense grant to to create a GeoAnalytical Center and purchase two mass spectrometers, an ion chromatograph, ground penetrating radar, and a high-performance computing node. Congrats to Graduating Class of 2020!

The Department of Geological Sciences held a virtual convocation to honor the graduating class of 2020 after what has certainly been an unusual and challenging semester. Faced with these challenges, the graduating class displayed a level of commitment and perseverance that has been inspiring to the entire department. We look forward to seeing what incredible things they do next! A special congratulations to the Department's Outstanding Graduate Student Award receipient, Rachel Hohn, and to the two (there was a tie!)
