Reporting Animal Welfare Concerns

CSUN is committed to the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching. The university encourages all individuals to report concerns regarding animal care and use, including potential noncompliance with approved protocols, animal welfare issues, or deviations from institutional or federal requirements.

 

How to Report a Concern

Concerns may be reported to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) using any of the methods below:

The university provides a mechanism for anonymous reporting, which allows individuals to submit concerns without disclosing their identity. Anonymous reports are reviewed and assessed to the extent possible based on the information provided.

Confidentiality


Individuals may choose to identify themselves when reporting a concern and request confidentiality. The university will make every effort to protect the identity of the reporting individual; however, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in all cases, particularly if disclosure is necessary to conduct a thorough review or required by law.

Non-Retaliation


CSUN prohibits retaliation against any individual who, in good faith, reports concerns regarding animal care and use.

What to Include in a Report

To help facilitate review, please provide as much detail as possible, such as:

  • Description of the concern
  • Location (building/room)
  • Date/time of incident
  • Protocol number (if known)
  • Individuals involved (if known)
