Motion Picture Cameras Company to Sponsor CSUN Senior Film Project
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Aug. 9, 2005)--Arri, Inc., makers of the Arriflex 35mm motion picture camera, has announced its decision to donate the use of a new, state-of-the art 35 mm camera to Cal State Northridge’s Department of Cinema and Television Arts.
The camera will be used each semester on a selected film project. Arri Inc. will also provide additional camera equipment and lighting to the project to ensure the students can concentrate on making their movie without any of the distractions from worrying about how to pay for it.
“I thought it would be interesting to provide the school with support for the one project each semester and let the students concentrate on creativity, not finances,” said Bill Russell, vice president of Arri Inc., and alumnus of the department. “The students should have no impediments in telling their stories, their art should be enhanced…students should have a more complete educational experience.”
The project selected for the upcoming fall semester will be directed by Philipp Eeierund, a senior international student in the program of the department of Cinema and Television Arts.
The film “Bauhaus: Broken Wings,” depicts the Bauhaus modern art movement in Germany, which was dismantled by the Nazi regime in 1933. It is based on a true story.
“This new relationship with Arri, Inc. is another example of the respect our film program is beginning to get in the industry,” said Nate Thomas, director of Northridge’s film production option. “The (Arri 35mm) project puts us on equal playing ground with some of the more prestigious film programs like USC, NYU, and UCLA.”
The German-made camera was recently used on the film “Cinderella Man,” directed by Ron Howard.
Kodak and Foto-Kem will provide film stock, processing, generators, post production, and film prints. Lacy Street Productions in downtown Los Angeles has offered the use of its lot for filming.
Production for “Bauhaus: Broken Wings” is scheduled to start Sept. 23. For more information about the project, visit :www.emotionp.com/bauhaus.
