“Pet Adoption Awareness Day” to be Held at CSUN
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 21, 2006) — Students in Cal State Northridge’s Department of Communication Studies, in conjunction with various Los Angeles-area animal rescue organizations, will host “Pet Adoption Awareness Day: Finding Loving Homes for Homeless Animals” on Sat., April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The purpose of the event is to raise awareness regarding the importance of pet adoption in battling the ever-growing overpopulation of dogs and cats in Southern California,” said Latasha Ball, CSUN communications student and event coordinator.
The free event will take place on the lawn in front of the university’s Music Building located at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.
Participating animal organizations include Pet Orphans of Southern California, HemoPet, Heart Bandits of the Greater Los Angeles area, West Valley Animal Shelter, Pet Mania Rescue, Southern California Dachshund Rescue, Southern California Siamese Cat Rescue and Last Chance for Animals.
Information regarding spaying/neutering, adoption and animal testing will be available. The process of animal adoptions will vary with each organization.
The event is a culmination of a group project conducted in the CSUN communication studies class, “Group Communication.”
“The object of the class is to help students understand theories of group dynamics as well as develop skills for working effectively in teams. To facilitate these objectives, each student belongs to a small group of four or five that takes on a self-selected, semester-long task that impacts the campus or the community,” said communication studies professor GiGi Hessamian, who is monitoring the project.
For more information regarding the event, contact Ball at (818) 793-6940.
Parking is $4 and available in Lot B1 on the corner of Nordhoff Street and Darby Avenue.
