CHIME Elementary's Carnival to Provide World of Fun for Families

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 10, 2006) -- Families and friends of CHIME Charter Elementary School, which has extensive ties to Cal State Northridge, are invited to enjoy fun from around the world at the school's first annual "Carnival" on Saturday, March 25.

The carnival will feature midway games, international music, an old-fashioned cake walk, an inflatable obstacle course, food and performances by the school's students representing various parts of the world. The carnival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, located at 19722 Collier St. in Woodland Hills.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to have fun together, experience different cultures and to invite the community at large to learn more about CHIME Charter Elementary School," said principal Julie Fabrocini.

Admission is $3 per person in advance or $4 at the door. Activity and food tickets will be available for 50¢ each. Proceeds from the carnival will go to support the school's library, art and music programs.

For more information about the carnival, call the school at (818) 346-5100.

CHIME Charter Elementary School and its sister campus, CHIME Charter Middle School, are independent schools that provide free public education through affiliation with the Los Angeles Unified School District. The schools serve as demonstration and teacher-training sites for Cal State Northridge's nationally acclaimed Michael D. Eisner College of Education. Last year, CHIME Charter Elementary was named "Charter School of the Year" by the California Charter Schools Association.

Both schools are part of the CHIME Institute, located in part at Cal State Northridge, which is a national leader in developing and implementing model educational programs and dynamic research and training environments to disseminate best practices in inclusive education. The institute's research and training center is housed in the Eisner College of Education. The CHIME Institute also offers an infant/toddler program, and a preschool/kindergarten inclusion program which is located at CSUN.

CHIME has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a national model for full inclusion of students with disabilities and for providing a blueprint for local schools across the country.
