Mary Beth Walker, Provost, Vice President of Academic Affairs

As Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Walker is responsible for directing nearly 3,000 faculty and staff members in the Division of Academic Affairs, the largest unit within the university. Dr. Walker oversees eight academic colleges; the college of extended learning; university library; academic support units; and six central academic affairs administrative offices. Provost Walker serves as a member of the CSU Academic Council, the President's Cabinet at CSUN, and the CSUN Foundation's Board of Directors. She also chairs the Provost's Council, the Academic Affairs Council, the Teacher Education Council, and the University Planning & Budget Group (UPBG).

Matthew Cahn, Vice Provost

Dr. Cahn manages and oversees various administrative protocols and daily operations of the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, providing support to departments and colleges as they deliver exceptional programs to our students.  Prior to his position as Vice Provost, Dr. Cahn served at Interim Dean in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, where he has been a faculty member since 1991. His research interests include environmental policy and resource management, public policy, and American Government. Dr. Cahn has been involved in several applied policy areas, ranging from transportation issues in metropolitan Los Angeles to the question of marine ecological protected areas in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. 

Stella Theodoulou, Special Assistant to the Provost

Dr. Stella Theodoulou has served as Special Assistant to the Provost since July 1, 2019.  Previously, she was appointed Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs effective June 25, 2018 by President Dianne F. Harrison. Dr. Theodoulou served as Vice Provost since July 2017 and, prior to that appointment, was Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences since August 2001, and Chair of the Department of Political Science from 1996-2001, where she was also a faculty member for five years. Dr. Theodoulou has led countless initiatives, mentored other campus leaders, and championed student success.

Linda Noblejas, Interim Executive Assistant to the Provost

Linda provides primary support to the Provost, managing the Provost's calendar, travel, and other concerns.  She supports administrative operations in the Provost's Office, including Section 600 searches, 5-year reviews, MPP evaluations, UPBG meetings, and various reporting deadlines.

Hazel Kochocki, Communications Specialist

Hazel serves as the primary writer and editor for the Division of Academic Affairs and the Office of the Provost. She proactively develops communications across all channels (web presence, social media, emails) and helps coordinate communications across the division for consistent messaging. In addition, Hazel supports the Provost with presentation remarks and talking points, newsletters, agendas, committee appointment letters and other, more complex communications.  She attends selected committee meetings relevant to Academic Affairs strategic communications, and she provides support as needed as a team member in the Office of the Provost.

Michelle Wahnich, Administrative Support Coordinator II

Michelle provides administrative support to the Provost and the Vice Provost.  She manages the calendar for the Vice Provost and handles his travel arrangements. Michelle processes background checks, maintains listservs, division lists and directories.  In addition, she handles ROTC access requests and processes interdisciplinary committee letters.

Francine Alderete, Administrative Support Assistant II

Francine is the receptionist/primary point-of-contact for the Provost’s Office.  In addition, she logs and routes all University forms, and she provides administrative support to Provost and Vice Provost.  Francine helps train and mentor Student Assistants, working alongside them.

Marlene Gale, Operations and Resource Specialist

Marlene oversees day-to-day operations of the Provost’s Office, including serving as a project manager and a resource to office staff and Central Academic Affairs.  Among her duties, she handles special projects and works directly with Administration & Finance.
