March 1, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Northridge — The Pride Center of the University Student Union (USU) invites CSUN students to attend a series of special events throughout March for Women’s History Month. Come celebrate queer and trans queer women with dynamic installments of Lavender Takeover, T-Time and Queerations to connect with other Matadors and learn about the impact these women have made in all aspects of history and culture!

“The Pride Center wants to showcase spectacular queer and trans women who continue to lead the movement towards inclusivity, visibility and equality,” said USU Pride Center Interim Supervisor Jay Hitomi. “Our fun and dynamic events during Women’s History Month capture these women’s remarkable contributions and inspiring stories.”

During March, Matadors are encouraged to show their unconditional love and support towards these talented women and their amazing contributions at these exciting panels and workshops! Kick off the month on Tuesday, March 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pride Center with the Lavender Takeover: Back on Campus, Back on Body to discuss self-love and body image. On Monday, March 7, honor trans voices by joining a Q&A session with transgender advocate and activist Mallery Jenna Robinson. Then, on Tuesday, March 8, students can learn how women and femme professionals from the College of Education embrace their identity in the workplace at Queer in Your Career. Next, Matadors will have the opportunity to express their bodies through the art of dance and choreography on Wednesday, March 9 at Queerations. On Tuesday, March 15, women and femmes of color have the opportunity to delve into deep and authentic conversations at the Lavender Takeover: Women & Femmes of Color Meetup. Then, on Wednesday, March 16, join actress and transgender youth activist Zoey Luna and celebrate trans success and activism in the entertainment industry. Looking ahead to Monday, March 28, students can get inspired during the Transfemme Elders Panel, as they discuss how they navigate through all aspects of life. Finally, on Tuesday, March 29, there will be a space of healing and support at the Lavender Takeover’s Multi-Generation Round Table Talk. These educational events provide powerful spaces where queer and trans women can build community, support women-owned ventures and discuss their community’s historical experiences.

Help acknowledge trans and queer women who have fought to empower their community for generations to come at the Pride Center’s Women’s History Month during March. For more information about each event, please visit csun.edu/pride/calendar.
