The USU’s Pride Center Celebrates Black History Month with Kat Blaque’s “Living In Your Truth” Workshop

February 5, 2019

Northridge — The Pride Center of the University Student Union (USU) invites all Matadors to attend this exciting event in celebration of Black History Month. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., come explore where black culture and the LGBTQIA+ community intersect at “Living In Your Truth” with transgender activist and YouTube personality, Kat Blaque. It will be an insightful evening that will explore Black Queer identities and highlight the importance of the intersectionality of Blackness and Queerness through a powerful Q&A session. Join us for this important free event in the Pride Center located in Plaza del Sol of the University Student Union.

“The Pride Center is excited to bring in a person like Kat Blaque who exemplifies the values that we hold here in our space,” said Ramon Tetangco, Student Event Assistant at the Pride Center and Event Lead for ‘Living In Your Truth’. “We foster an atmosphere that celebrates all parts of your identities and the intersectionalities that make each individual special and having Kat Blaque highlight our event in observance of Black History Month will only add to the environment that we offer!”

A Trans person of color and YouTube personality, Blaque uses her platforms to speak with passion, spread information, and cultivate conversations that encourage education across intersections. She playfully refers to herself as an “intersectionality salad” who embodies various identities and experiences. As a black woman, she is invested in starting discussions about white supremacy and how it’s impacted her own life as well as various others. As a Trans woman, she believes that speaking about her growth and acceptance of self is vital in a world where Trans people aren’t seen as valid and their possibilities are often limited.

At the upcoming CSUN event, Kat Blaque will also participate in a Q&A and a meet and greet session, where folx within the community will be able to share their thoughts and experiences with her.

Come celebrate Black History Month with the USU’s Pride Center presentation of Kat Blaque’s  “Living In Your Truth”! For more information about this special workshop, please contact Ramon Tetangco at ramon.tetangco.529@my.csun.edu or visit csun.edu/pride.
