Update on Investigation into December Threats, Hate Incidents

February 21, 2019

To the Campus Community,

We are writing you today to provide an update on the investigation into the threats and hate incidents CSUN experienced in December.

At this time, CSUN Police and our law enforcement partners, which included the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Los Angeles Police Department, have exhausted investigative efforts into the leads that existed. We are not closing the investigation, but the status has been reclassified as inactive.

Anyone can still report information about these cases via the anonymous CSUN Police tip hotline, 818-677-TIPS (8477). We will continue to pursue any new leads and work to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice. Threatening our campus community carries significant criminal consequences.

These cowardly threats and hate-filled messages have only served to strengthen our resolve to stand united as a campus. We are working to launch a campaign this semester that clearly and powerfully conveys hate has no home on our campus. We will be sharing more in the coming weeks about this effort to fight hate in all its forms.

Together, we can make our campus safer and free from hate.

Sincerely,

Dianne F. Harrison, Ph.D., President
Gregory Murphy, Chief of Police
