Statement from CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison on the Orlando Shootings

The following message was posted on the front page of the university website on June 13, 2016:

On behalf of California State University, Northridge, our hearts, thoughts and sympathies are with the victims, survivors, first responders, friends and family, and the entire LGBTQ community impacted by the senseless tragedy in Orlando early Sunday morning. It is also heartbreaking to have this violence occur in the midst of expressions of pride around the globe that symbolize the progress we have made in pushing back against hate and discrimination. We must redouble our efforts to not allow these heinous and murderous actions to define us as a people. Indeed, hate and discrimination must be countered by acceptance, respect and understanding of our differences.

Dianne F. Harrison, Ph.D.
