Message on the Tragedy at Umpqua Community College

The following message was posted on the front page of the university website on Oct. 2, 2015:

Message from CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison

Thursday’s tragedy at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon strikes at the heart of every college and university community. No learning institution can fulfill our shared and noble mission to empower and educate when faced with such despicable violence. On behalf of the CSUN community, our hearts and thoughts are with the victims, their families, the first responders and the survivors of the heinous actions that shook the Umpqua campus. This heartbreaking tragedy is a reminder to remain vigilant. Safety on- and off-campus is a responsibility we all share.

In accordance with a presidential proclamation issued by the White House, I have directed that U.S. flags on campus fly at half staff until sunset, October 6, in honor of the victims of the tragedy.
