Liberal Studies Program

Humanities Interdisciplinary Minor

The Humanities minor is available for students interested in supplementing their degree with an interdisciplinary array of courses in Ethnic Studies, the Arts, English, Linguistics, Philosophy, and others. Students gain an understanding of the development of expression and ideas and its influences on society. The minor is 24 units and students are required to meet with an advisor before adding it to their degree plan. Students interested in pursuing Humanities are not required to complete an online workshop. To schedule an appointment, please call the Liberal Studies Program at (818) 677-3300. When scheduling an appointment, please identify yourself as a student interested in declaring the Humanities Minor. 

Lower Division Core Requirements (9 units):

  • HUM 101, Forms and Ideas in Humanities (3)
  • HUM 105, Cultural Eras in Humanities I (3)
  • HUM 106, Cultural Eras in Humanities II (3)

Upper Division Core Requirements (6 units):

  • HUM 391, Cultural Theories and Methodologies (3)
  • HUM 491, Capstone Seminar (3)

Upper Division Core Electives (9 units):

Select one intellectual history, theory and methodologies course from the following list (3 units)

  • AFRS 386; ART 315; CHS 351; COMS 301, 356, 360; ENGL 436, ENGL 438; GWS 301; HIST 303, 304; JS 300; MUS 307, MUS 310; PHIL 343, 344, 345; RS 356; SPAN 307

Select two additional upper division courses from the following Departments (6 units)

    HUM 391 may be repeated once for credit
