The UDWPE has a new format beginning in March 2017.
For the past two years, we have piloted a new UDWPE format on a limited basis, and we permanently transitioned to that new format beginning with the March, 2017 exam. The scoring guide, sample prompt, and sample student essays are posted - see "Sample Essays and Scoring Guide." The Learning Resource Center will continue to provide workshops and boot camps to help students prepare; space will be limited, so make sure to check the Learning Resource Center website for dates and sign-up instructions.
- Registration for the January 20th exam is open and will close on Friday, January 12th at 5:00 p.m. OR SOONER if it reaches capacity before that date. The January exam is the last exam to qualify for fall 2017 graduation.
- If you are an undergraduate and you have a registration hold because you have not yet completed the WPE, you can file a request for more time to satisfy the requirement if you have never done so. Please click the red button on the right "Time Extension," complete and submit the form. Any further questions about that process should be directed to the Office of Undergraduate Studies - they make all decisions regarding registration holds. Their number is 818.677.2969.
- You need a score of 8 or higher to pass the WPE. If you did not pass and need help, please see "What if I fail?"
- The Learning Resource Center offers free prep sessions and workshops to help you prepare for the exam. You can find more information at the link, including how to sign up.
