Chicana-Chicano Studies

CSUN Chicana/o Studies Minor


The minor in Chicano and Chicana Studies is a 24-unit program designed to give the student preparation in the discipline of Chicana/o Studies through a combination of lower and upper division core requirements.

CHS Minor Requirements

Lower Division (9 units)

  • CHS 100 Chicana/o Culture
  • CHS 201 Survey of Mexican Literature in Translation
  • CHS 270 Fieldwork in Barrio Studies

Upper Division (9 units)

  • CHS 351 Survey of Mexican Philosophical Thought
  • CHS 445 History of the Chicana/o
  • CHS 453 Theory and the Chicana/o Experience

Upper Division Electives (6 units)

  • Electives in upper division are to be selected with the advice and approval of the advisor.
