THE LATEST: Beck became the sixth president of CSUN on Jan. 11, succeeding Dianne Harrison, who retired after more than eight years in the post. Beck devoted her first 100 days to a virtual “listening tour,” taking in the needs of the university’s 39,000 students, nearly 2,000 faculty and hundreds of staff. Prior to Beck’s arrival, CSUN placed No. 4 on CollegeNET’s 2020 Social Mobility Index and No. 21 in social mobility on U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 Best Colleges list. In November, CSUN renamed its administration building to honor alumnus and notary pioneer Milt Valera and his wife, Debbie, who had donated more than $11 million for programs across the campus.
