Random Acts of Kindness Week 2023

The Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing presents
The 4th Annual Random Acts of Kindness Week

Monday, February 13th, 2023Friday, February 17th, 2023

What: At the Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing (HWB), annually we celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week with opportunities to engage in kindness. HWB is inspired by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAK) non-profit organization who started the movement and created resources for community engagement.

Why: According to RAK, there are scientifically proven benefits of being kind. Studies show kindness increases energy, happiness, pleasure, lifespan, serotonin, and oxytocin (“love hormone). Kindness decreases pain, stress, anxiety, depression, and blood pressure. At HWB, we believe in cultivating a kinder campus for all.

When: Monday, February 13thFriday, February 17th, 2023

HWB’s Random Acts of Kindness Pledge

At the Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing we are committed to spreading kindness on campus by cultivating an environment where all students, staff, faculty, and community members feel respected and included. We hope to empower others through random acts of kindness and positivity, by offering a helping hand when someone is in need and by providing a safe space for all to feel valued and heard.

As part of the CSUN community, you are taking this pledge to spread kindness through all acts, big or small. We hope that you remember this during your daily interactions and put it into practice as often as possible.

We/I (CSUN faculty, staff, students, and community members) pledge to:

  • Spread kindness in my community
  • Offer help when I see someone in need
  • Commit random acts of kindness that delight and inspire
  • Empower others through positive acts and words
  • Visualize value and worth in everyone around me
  • Be considerate and respectful of others

The Science of Kindness (2:18)
There are scientifically proven benefits to being kind! It is contagious, teachable, and makes you feel all fuzzy inside.

The Power of Kindness (11:25)
Kindness breaks language barriers, touches people from all distances, and unites us all—different or alike. Focused on the physiological and physical benefits of being kind, Raegan dives deep into central themes such a honesty, humility and being "harmless." She shows data and statistics that demonstrate that people who enacts kindness may be the biggest beneficiaries. This talk is about helping others, but it also about self-help and mental health.
