Toxic Tour Project

The SFV Toxic Tour takes students on a virtual "toxic tour" of the San Fernando Valley through a GIS Story Map platform. The tour is led by faculty experts revealing sites of environmental injustice but also locations of re-imagination and hope. Students can take the tour from home, virtually meet faculty experts, practitioners, and environmental justice advocates involved in reimagining the ecology of the region. This virtual experience will eventually become a real tour post-COVID 19 restrictions. Students can apply these skills on campus once we return from virtual learning; visiting these sites directly and/or serving as new "tour guides" for the project. The faculty leaders on this project include:

  • Natale Zappia (History)
  • Steve Graves (Geography)
  • Lisa Chaudhuri (Liberal Studies)
  • Carrie Saetermoe (Psychology)
