Courses are taught by leading practitioners in the field. The faculty's blend of expertise and outstanding scholarship in the field of taxation adds immeasurably to the learning experience, which is strongly practice-oriented.

The program integrates theory and practice throughout the curriculum. For example, students have the option at the end of their program to participate in the Bookstein Institute's Tax Challenge Project, Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, VITA Clinic, Community Outreach Tax Clinic, or the student-run Tax Development Journal. Each of these opportunities serves to integrate the material learned in the program as well as to provide students with a unique opportunity to gain valuable practical experience.

Bookstein Institute

The Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation is the focal point for tax-education within the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics at California State University, Northridge. It serves as the hub for education, scholarship and community service in taxation in the Southern California region. Established by Los Angeles philanthropist and tax partner at Armanino, LLP, Harvey Bookstein ('70) together with his wife Harriet, the Institute has been instrumental in launching of the Master of Science in Taxation program. The efforts of those involved in the Institute enable the Nazarian College to lay the groundwork for future programs focused on advancing tax education for professionals. The Bookstein Institute provides professional growth and development opportunities through advanced studies in taxation, scholarly research, networking events and service-learning projects. The Institute promotes and supports activities that encourage a greater understanding of the dynamic field of taxation. With the support of the Bookstein Institute, the Master of Science in Taxation program continues to enhance its reputation as a destination program for professionals who excel and strive to enhance their expertise in taxation.
