Introducing the FYI and JYI History Subject Matter Progrma

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A TEACHING CAREER? If you are, please keep reading as we have amazing news for History majors!! The History Department is pleased to announce the creation of a new degree option for History majors interested in pursuing a teaching career. The Four-Year Integrated (FYI) and Junior-Year Integrated (JYI) History Subject Matter Programs prepare students for a career teaching History-Social Science at the middle school and/or high school level.

In a nutshell: the FYI/JYI programs offer the possibility for students to get both their BA and Teaching Credentials together. So, this new option is a great opportunity because you can get your BA/Credential faster! For incoming freshmen it can take four to five years and for transfer students two to three years, depending on the number of transferred credits. Since you will be working towards a BA and a Credential as an undergraduate student, you will save money and time while getting closer to your dream to become a middle school or high school teacher. This is your chance to finish school and go directly into a teaching career. By the way, did you know that a teacher's starting salary at LAUSD is over 50k? And it comes with full benefits!! But most importantly, it is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.

The FYI/JYI will officially launch in Fall 22. For those interested, we will hold an information session in late Fall 21 so keep an eye for the emails. However, if you can't wait to get information about it, please contact Dr Juarez-Dappe at pjuarez@csun.edu.
