Shepard had the most productive post-high school baseball career of any Pennfield graduate. Shepard played in the minor leagues for several years, including a stint with the South Bend Silverhawks where he played against the Michigan Battle Cats at C.O. Brown Stadium. Shepard played at KCC and went on to play at Cal State Northridge and led the team in batting average, RBIs, hits and runs for a team that advanced to the NCAA West Regional. At Pennfield, Shepard led the Panthers to a league title and was All-City, hitting .542 at shortstop, while also striking out 69 in 56 innings as a pitcher.
