Welcome to the Freshman Page

Please be sure to complete your General Education Basic Skills requirements (Freshman Composition, Critical Thinking, Math, and Oral Communication) as soon as possible. You may also begin enrolling in your lower division business core requirements. An advisor will be able to recommend the right combination of General Education and major requirements considering your individual situation. Please review the Academic Program menu of this website for requirements for your intended major.

For additional information related to Freshman, please visit the Division of Student Affairs website, Student page.

New Freshman

To ensure your success, advisement is required prior to registration for all new freshmen.  Freshmen admitted to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at CSUN will be provided academic advisement in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics Student Services Center and EOP Satellite. Our Student Services Center and EOP Satellite advises EOP students from their first semester through graduation as part of our specialized services for students in the program.  If you are a freshman and have been admitted to EOP, please contact the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics Student Services Center and EOP satellite at (818) 677-3537 for more information about scheduling your mandatory academic advising appointment.

All other freshmen will schedule their mandatory advisement sessions with the Matador Advising Hub.

The Degree Progress Report (DPR)

The DPR details your progress toward completion of bachelor’s degree requirements. It lists coursework completed at CSUN and other schools from which you submitted official transcripts. It places coursework into CSUN degree requirement sections and identifies requirements you still need to satisfy in order to graduate.

Please be sure to bring your current DPR to every advisement session. Please visit How to Guides for Students for information on how to print your DPR.

General Education requirements

In addition to completing your major requirements, you must complete your General Education requirements in order to meet your degree requirements. Your DPR will outline your General Education requirements. The requirements are also listed in the CSUN Catalog which may be accessed by visiting CSUN Catalog.
