To the Campus Community:
The start of the academic year should be filled with excitement for all students as they continue on their journey to a bright future. This year is different. Like so many in the CSUN campus community, I have been closely watching with profound concern the signals coming from Washington relating to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provides a critical pathway for our Dreamers to pursue their education.
In the midst of this uncertainty, I want to clearly and unequivocally communicate to our students, faculty, staff and parents CSUN's commitment to educating, supporting and protecting all students regardless of immigration status. We are here for all students and have taken steps to ensure our campus is a safe and welcoming environment. The California State University system has also created helpful online resources, including this student website that features information on admissions, financial aid, and campus and legal support, as well as a new website that features Frequently Asked DACA-related Questions, which was released on Wednesday.
In addition, it remains the position of the CSU and of CSUN that we do not undertake efforts with federal immigration enforcement authorities to investigate, detain or arrest individuals for violations of federal immigration law. Please remember, any and all inquiries from federal, state or local officials received on campus regarding immigration status should be immediately referred to CSUN's Department of Police Services (DPS) at (818) 677-2111. DPS will act as a liaison with the on-site officials and will coordinate with the CSU Office of General Counsel to provide guidance, references and resources as available.
We will continue to carefully and diligently monitor for any changes to this information and will provide updates as appropriate. Additional resources and information can be found on this CSUN website.
I am hopeful DACA will remain in place and continue to provide our Dreamer students an opportunity to earn a CSUN degree. However, if the program is eliminated or in any way diminished, we will do everything we can to continue to support our students.
