Nazarian College Receives AACSB Recognition
Arev Mkrtchyan, a senior in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics at California State University, Northridge was named a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholar and awarded the prestigious $10,000 scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year. This award is given to undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities.
“[The] PCAOB Scholars award means a lot to me, [and] I am so thankful for this financial support, which will help me to achieve my educational goals,” said Mkrtchyan. “[It] gave me a new goal: [to] do more, get more and give more.”
Currently, Arev is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting to gain a better understanding of what she believes is “the language of any business” and will graduate in December 2021. In a world where accountants will always be needed, Arev plans on using her degree to assist her community with managing their budgets, doing their taxes, and completing financial reports and audits.
“This is a great achievement for Arev and we are very proud of this recognition,” said Dr. Rishma Vedd, department chair of Accounting and Information Systems. “I know Arev’s ambition as a student will translate into the professional world where she will make significant contribution to the community.”
About the PCAOB Scholarship
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, established in Congress as a result of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, is a nonprofit corporation that oversees the audits of public companies, brokers and dealers. Since 2011, the PCAOB Scholars Program has existed to assist students that are likely to become auditors and those who might choose a different career path otherwise. Recipients are selected through a nomination process, with its eligibility requirements being: one must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in accounting, demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing, demonstrate high ethical standards and must not be a PCAOB employee or a child or spouse of a PCAOB employee.
