Nazarian College MST Students Receive 2021 Tax Executive Institute’s Outstanding Achievement Award

June 28, 2021

Emi Fisher and Orr Klein, Master of Science in Taxation (MST) students at California State University, Northridge’s David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, were recently named co-recipients of the Class of 2021 Tax Executive Institute’s Outstanding Achievement Award and will receive the Tax Executive Institute Scholarship Award.

The Tax Executives Institute awards a scholarship in the amount of $1,500 to a graduating MST student at the Nazarian College who has demonstrated the highest level of mastery of knowledge and has been rated as the top student by faculty in the program.

“I want to congratulate Emi and Orr on their success and achievement in the MST program,” said Chandra Subramaniam, dean of the Nazarian College. “It is important for us to reward student excellence and we are thankful to the support from the Tax Executives Institute, which allows to provide this recognition.”

Fisher, a former tax accountant in Japan, moved to the United States five years ago and applied to the MST program in order to help build her knowledge on taxation in the United States. With the support of her husband and faculty in the MST program, she was able to balance motherhood and obtaining her degree. Fisher graduated with her master’s degree this past spring and now works as a Tax Manager at EOS Accountants LLP.

“The path to get here was not easy for me,” said Fisher. “Graduating from the MST program with this wonderful award gives me confidence that my goal to become an outstanding U.S. tax accountant is indeed achievable.”

Klein received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Nazarian College in 2017 and is graduating with his master’s degree. During his years as an undergraduate, he worked for a local accounting firm, then realized he wanted to pursue a career in taxation and obtained his CPA license after graduating. He currently works as a Senior Tax Associate at Crowne, LLP, with a focus on federal tax practice.

“It’s nice to know that all of my hard work and determination didn’t go unnoticed,” said Klein.
