With the introduction of the new Minor in Entrepreneurship and the establishment of a co-curricular Entrepreneurship Program, aspiring student entrepreneurs cross-campus now have access to a whole new set of experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
The Minor in Entrepreneurship kicked off last Fall with BUS310 – Foundations in Entrepreneurship – taught by Professor Lois Shelton. After studying various topics pertaining to launching a new venture including business model formation, early stage capital, and small business market development and sales, the eight student teams then pitched their ideas in the culminating class activity - a Fast Pitch Competition – to three of CSUN’s most successful alumni entrepreneurs, Steve Fazio, Jeff Marine, and Zack Schuler. The Minor in Entrepreneurship continues this Spring with BUS410, Business Development and Operation for Entrepreneurs, also taught by Professor Shelton.
Outside the classroom, under the leadership of Ryan Holbrook, newly-appointed Entrepreneurship Program Director, the curriculum is complemented with new resources including speaker events, new venture competitions, and a mentorship program. The inaugural “Bull Ring” New Venture Competition (Shark Tank Meets Matadors!) offers students the chance to receive intensive coaching and mentoring as they compete for over $50,000 in prize money.
