COBAE’s 2014-2015 Research Fellow Announced

February 5, 2014

Congratulations are in order to Dr. Cristina Rubino, assistant professor of management, who has been named the 2014-2015 Research Fellow for the College of Business and Economics.  Dr. Rubino’s project, entitled “What Do You Bring to the Table? Examining the Role of Personal Resources in Various Work Contexts,” has significant potential both for advancing theory relative to diversity and non-standard work dynamics and for enhancing employee well-being and organizational performance.  Building upon her earlier work on employee strain, the research addresses the conflict-induced stress that can arise when virtual, temporary and permanent employees coming together in the workplace.  A recognized expert in her discipline, Dr. Rubino has published extensively in such journals as Human Performance, Applied Psychology: An International Journal, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and Stress & Health.  This project will be the culminating piece in a three-study effort, with a leading management conference and journal targeted for the dissemination of results, as well as presentations to campus colleagues and participating organization.

Cristina Rubino received her Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational psychology from the University of Houston. Her major research interests include employee health and well-being, diversity, and teams. Her work focuses on expanding established stress-strain models, examining diversity at both the individual and team levels, and integrating well-being research within the team context to identify additional factors that impact team outcomes. She has published academic articles in journals such as Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Stress & Health, and International Journal of Selection and Assessment. She also has applied her expertise by leading and participating on a variety of large-scale projects focused on job analysis, training, team composition, customer satisfaction, and mentoring with numerous organizations, including City of Los Angeles, ExxonMobil, and NASA. She has also presented her research at the top conferences, including the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Academy of Management annual meetings.

Four other COBAE scholars -  Dr. Rafi (Accounting & Information Systems Department), Dr. Murat Alpaslan (Management Department), Dr. Vincent Covrig (Finance Department) and Dr. Maia Beruchashvili (Marketing Department) – deserve our gratitude for the challenging task of reading and evaluating multiple high-quality submissions.
