CSUN Names First Mike Curb Chair of Music Industry Studies

As the music industry continues to evolve in response to new technologies, California State University, Northridge assistant professor of music Carey Christensen admits that it is a continuous challenge ensuring that his students are aware of the latest innovations and trends.
 
Christensen said his new title, as CSUN’s first Mike Curb Chair in Music Industry Studies, is making that effort a lot easier. The position was created as part of an endowment Mike Curb, an award-winning songwriter, music producer, record company owner and California’s former lieutenant governor, established when he made a $10 million gift to the university in 2006….

The 12th Northridge Composition Competition announced

The Music Department at California State University, Northridge is pleased to announce the 12th edition of the Northridge Composition Prize, an annual competition designed to support the creation and premiere of new orchestral works by young and emerging composers. The prize will consist of a performance with the CSUN Symphony under the direction of John Roscigno during the 2014-2015 season, and an award of $1000. Read more

Faculty member and clarinetist, Julia Heinen will be the chair of the jury for the 9th International Saverio Mercadante Clarinet Competition held from Oct 17-20 in Turi, Italy. After the competition she will give two days of masterclasses sponsored by the Associazione Musico Culturale. Read more
