Hailed as having, “a gorgeous sound” by conductor Benjamin Zander, saxophonist Benjamin Sorrell has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and with orchestras throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Other honors including winning the New England Conservatory (NEC) Concerto Competition performing Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Orchestra, winning the NEC Honors competition and a solo performance in Jordan Hall, Boston, MA with his saxophone quartet, and being invited to perform William Bolcom’s Concerto Grosso with the University of Southern California Wind Ensemble. Dr. Cooper holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Kentucky in Music Education with emphases in both jazz bass and tuba performance, a Master of Music degree in Tuba Performance from the University of Texas at Austin where he served for two years as the Graduate Teaching Assistant in applied Tuba and Euphonium. Blake then moved west to attend the University of Southern California where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance with emphases in music education, jazz bass and instrumental conducting.
