The CSUN Jazz Studies program is committed to progressive education, inclusive mentorship, and creating life-changing opportunities for our students. We provide a welcoming, communal environment for students to explore their creativity, in balance with learning fundamental jazz tradition and practical professional skills. Diverse, internationally recognized faculty guide students in their artistic and professional development throughout their time at CSUN and beyond. The program offers an innovative curriculum focused on all areas of jazz: improvisation, theory, history, pedagogy, arranging and composition, with an emphasis on performance. Opportunities to travel, record, compose, and engage with critically acclaimed professional musicians in a variety of ensemble settings are available to our students every semester.

The CSUN Jazz Studies Department is gratefully supported by the following benefactors:

  • Herb Alpert Foundation
  • The Ella Fitzgerald Foundation
  • Linda Anderson
  • Ron and Sandy Zacky
