Phil Keen currently performs with the Long Beach Symphony, Riverside County Philharmonic, the Fresno Philharmonic, Monterey Symphony and Long Beach Opera. In addition he is a member of the Americus Brass Band and the Long Beach Municipal Band. In previous years, he could be found performing in Disneyland Entertainment and touring the country with The Make Believe Brass Quintet. He has a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a Masters degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Michigan. Other ensembles he has performed with are the Los Angeles Philharmonic, L.A. Chamber Orchestra, L.A. Opera, Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific, and many other Southern California orchestras, bands, brass ensembles, ballet and opera companies.
He has also recorded soundtracks for many of the major studios in Hollywood. Besides performing, Phil is on the faculties of the California State Universities Northridge and Fullerton, Pomona College, Vanguard University, Golden West College and Long Beach City College where he teaches low brass studies. His major teachers were Jeff Reynolds and Dennis Smith of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Robert Simmergren, Loren Marsteller, and John Hollenbeck. An accomplished doubler of the low brass, Phil specializes on the alto, tenor and bass trombones, bass trumpet and the euphonium.
