California State University, Northridge is hosting a one-day Migrahack training event on Saturday, May 3 that will equip ethnic media journalists with data journalism skills.

The event, sponsored by the CSUN Journalism Department, Institute for Justice and Journalism, CSUN Latino Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and Hoy Los Angeles, will feature workshops from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Migrahack aims to help reverse insufficient training in digital media among ethnic media journalists in order to positively impact the progress of the ethnic press, as well as job opportunities for journalists of color.

The training will incorporate data about immigration, which is one of the most complex and controversial issues of the day and is of particular interest to ethnic media journalists and their audience.

Migrahack will feature experienced journalists and developers who will hold interactive workshops on how to find and analyze data and how to design maps and interactive graphics.
