Exceptional Creative Accomplishments Award
Jade C. Huell, Communication Studies
Since joining CSUN in 2017, Dr. Jade C. Huell’s creative accomplishments have integrated her artistic practice, scholarship, pedagogy, social justice activism, and community engaged performance and theatrical work. As the Director of the CSUN Performance Ensemble, Dr. Huell directed “Caged Bird” in Fall 2018, and won a national award for the production. Dr. Huell’s innovative work combines poetry, movement, music, and original dialogue, to create dramatic work that discusses issues including mass incarceration, the US immigration system, and the military industrial complex, among many others. Dr. Huell is taking her innovative work a step further in light of COVID-19 and is directing her first fully online production in April 2020. In addition, Dr. Huell maintains her commitment to building a creative community around interdisciplinary arts and performance not only within CSUN but in the community surrounding the university as well.
