Senior Film Project ‘Amal’ Shortlisted For BAFTA Student Film Awards

Producer and director of AMAL standing next to BAFTA logo.AMAL poster The Senior Film Project ‘Amal,’ directed by recent CTVA alum Dilek Ince was on the official shortlist for the 2019 British Academy (BAFTA) Student Film Awards. This honor is the British equivalent to the Student Oscars. ‘Amal’ tells the 
story of an American volunteer doctor named Mary, who witnesses a tragic event that leaves a young Syrian girl named Amal without a family. Mary decides to adopt the young girl as her own daughter, but problems arise in the process when a travel ban is placed on Syrians traveling to the United States. 
 
The BAFTA Student Film Awards competition shortlist was selected from over 550 submissions by students at film schools in 38 countries across the world. The shortlist represents about 50 films in 3 categories.  Amal was a recent recipient of a Directors Guild of America Student Film Award in the Outstanding Student Women Filmmakers category.
