Television Production Spotlight: Nebiyu Dingetu

Year graduated from CSUN: 2015

Current company: The Hollywood Reporter

Position title: Jr. Video Editor

Job responsibilities:
My daily responsibilities are pretty straight forward. Most projects are short behind-the-scenes videos which take approximately 2-3 days to edit. But we’re starting to produce content that is a bit longer than our usual length. I recently edited an 8min short doc about graduating seniors at USC Film School which is one of my favorite edits so far.

Our biggest project is the Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter series which air on Sundance TV. They’re hour long roundtable conversations among industry professionals which are produced every Emmy and Oscar season. They’re shot on 6 cameras and we get notes from Sundance TV on how to re-arrange the conversation on a 7 act format. We don’t have assistant editors so each editor is responsible for all technical and aesthetic duties but we do have interns to help with certain tasks.

Path into the Industry:
I was very fortunate to land an internship at Hollywood Reporter’s video department during my last semester at CSUN. I was then able to get some freelance jobs from them every now and then after my internship ended which then led to a full-time employment when a position opened up.

Words of wisdom:
Be kind, work hard!
