This exhibition consists of figures, altars, masks and images of San Simon/Maximón, a revered folk saint of Guatemala, who is treated with great deference for his abilities to bestow blessings as well as grave misfortune.  Curated by Peri M. Klemm and Bill Mercer with students from Exhibition Design (Art 342/542), this show features the renowned collection of Jim and Jeanne Pieper and will present various depictions and guises of this unique syncretic folk  saint.  The exhibition opening will coincide with San Simon's feast day when he appears in processions and his altars are renewed with offerings of tobacco, alcohol, incense, clothing, money, candles, and food.
