Three small children look off to the left. The tallest is a little boy in a policeman's uniform. The other two are small girls, also in costumes. It is Halloween and they are dressed in a triceratops costume from Barney the Dinosaur. The piece is all in black and white charcoal, which means the vibrance of the costumes is lost, as if in distant memory. The smallest girl is slouching, or trying to hide behind the bigger sister. Bigger sister is holding up a peace sign with fingers as they look off at a distant photographer.

A hand holds a fork in the bottom left of the painting. We, as the viewer are seated at the table infront of an inviting plate of colorful food. Before we can eat, we notice that each item on the plate: the salmon, rice, cooked vegetables, even the cup of tea in the background, all have a post-it on them noting the name of the food and the calorie count. The pad of post-its, with a sharp pencil is on the right side of the plate. A utensil that is blocking us from enjoying this meal. The piece is vibrantly colored with acrylic paint, but slightly transparent in layers with almost a water-color effect.

An excited pup is in the shadows of his yard when he discovers a new friend. The friend is a monster-like figure, black in the shadows with large, blank, wondering oval eyes. He is bent over towards the dog in a spider-like pose with one creepy hand reaching out to discover what the dog is. In the background, the dog's owner has slid open the illuminated back doors and calls to her doggy. The moonlight creates a path through the trees and inky, dark night.

“The Curious Dog”

Artist: Clover Kustak
Material: Digital Painting
Size: 9"x12”

A tall piece done in water color with soft blues, pinks, and violets denoting the subtle shading in flesh of wrists and hands. The top hand catches a stream of water that creates bubbles. The next hand, lower, but overlapping, holds a pair of wooden chopsticks open. A third, lower hand is open as if catching the falling Scrabble letter tiles. The bottom hand seems to have caught a toothbrush, ready to end the day. The cascading water on the right seems to end in rippling lines that also complete each watery wrist. The hands are delicate, female hands, complete with violet gray nail polish.

“Hands In a Day”

Artist: Candice Lee
Material: watercolor, colored pencils, graphite on paper

A large pair of lace-up combat boots are drawn in pencil and take up most of the page. They stand on grass, and a clouded sky is in the distance. The legs wearing the boots are surprisingly thin, and covered in longish hair. One is black and white! The souls of the shoes are toothy horse grins, and the toes of the boots are actually whiskered horse muzzles, complete with flared nostrils. These boots are actually out grazing in the grass.

An aging man sits in a chair to the left of the canvas. He is comfortable with a bit of a comforting slouch to his shirt, and his pant legs rolled up, as if to wash his bare feet. His left arm is outstretched and a crow is perched upon it. Instead of the man's head, a crow pops it's head out of the man's collar, where his head should be. A huge, bug-eyed goldfish floats above, swimming toward them in a black, clouded sky. His giant tail fins curve back to the left and lead the viewer down the glossy-eyed fish, to the perched crow, down the man's body and bare legs, and across to a curious crow who looks up at him from the barren ground. The whole thing is in a curving s-motion that leads up down, then up again, in conversation with the art piece, picking up tiny details each time. The man is thoughtfully shaded with hatching adding to the slack of his comfortable clothes, and extending into his hairy bare legs. He sits on a humble kitchen chair, and which besides the crow at his feet, casts the only shadow on the vast, blank landscape. The feeling is calm, though a headless man, and giant, shadowless fish should be ominous. The man clearly knows these old friends, and has similar evening conversations before.

Artist: Anna White
Medium: digital
Size: 12” x 8”
Year: 2020

Digital illustration including a photograph of a young woman with blond hair flowing away from her face. She is looking upwards, shielding her eyes with her hand. The hand emerges from the upper left side of the piece and is larger than the girl’s face below it. This allows for our perspective of looking down at the young woman. A shadow, which falls on the hand, also falls on her face. The shadows also appear in other areas of the piece and have a heighted contrast of thick black lines against a patchwork of bright colors in the background including yellow, blue, peach and lavender. The woman’s peach-colored outfit is also broken up into shapes caused by the shadows. A network of thin white lines adds texture to the hair and further outlines the shapes and shadows.

This watercolor painting is a depiction of the following dream: My brother, his friend and I were playing on the side of a hill in a forest of pine trees under a gray sky when my brother handed me a remote control to our old minivan. I was playing with it when I accidentally steered it towards a pale blue house down the hill. I ran down to see the car crash into the side of the house and watched my mom crawl out of the fire in the kitchen. The sky turned to a vibrant maroon red and the trees caved in around me. The artist has her face in her hands with a ¾ view of her back turned towards us as she kneels in the bottom right portion of the painting. The tall, angular house structure sits slightly off center and tilts to the right. The landscape includes a foreground of windswept green grass with stylized fir trees beyond the house.

At the base of the plant, one can decipher the word Growth in the brown area of the soil. A strong dark shadow extends to the left under the plant.

Two painted horizontal canvas panels have been placed one atop the other separated by an inch of space. The top panel depicts two centrally placed unclothed women with long brown hair falling behind them. They appear to be mirror images slightly angled towards one another. Their eyes are closed, and with anguished faces, rivers of blue tears flow into, and then through their outstretched hands. The dark gray background of this panel transitions to a lighter blue-gray with a water texture which then is picked up by the bottom canvas. On this panel, the twin flows of blue water land on planet earth. The arc of the earth takes up one third of the base of the panel against a gray background. The continents of our planet are green shapes surrounded by the ocean with linear white cloud formations floating above. There is an aura of a lighter blue brushstrokes radiating from the earth.
