The Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication (MCCAMC) Advisement Grid

FALL 2021 – Subject to change on a semester basis

A student in the College will be subject to one of two advisement situations each semester: 1) Advisement Required (Registration Advisement Hold) or 2) Advisement Recommended (No Advisement Hold). Students who have Required Advisement must complete advisement to be eligible to register in the following semester. Students who have Recommended Advisement are encouraged to seek advisement but will be allowed to register without having been advised. Whether a student is required to receive advisement depends on major, academic status (probation or non-probation), and whether or not the student is part of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Star Act/CA Promise or part of an Academic Success Advisement Campaign (AM-ASC).

Within MCCAMC, there are two main advisement outlets: 1) The MCCAMC Student Resource Center & EOP Satellite (SRC/EOP) and 2) the major department.  Each department provides to its students individual advisement on course curriculum and selection as well as information on career development. The SRC/EOP provides supplemental General Education and holistic academic advisement for a special caseload of continuing students in good standing during the middle of each semester. This helps students gain an understanding of the various aspects of the degree process and how to advance towards graduation.

This semester, EOP First-Time Freshmen (FTF), Probation and Academic Performance Agreement (APA) students are required to see an advisor in the SRC/EOP (refer to grid below for “Req.”)  First Time Transfers (FTT*- highly rec – refer to information under the New Student Welcome Letter link).  If required by their major, these students may also need to seek advisement through their major department BEFORE meeting with an SRC/EOP Advisor (unless special arrangements were made). Students not required to seek advisement in the SRC/EOP, but wish to utilize their services, should plan to meet with an advisor during the months of September, and mid-January through mid-March (contact the Center regarding other available periods).   NoteNon EOP FTF are being advised by the HUB team (refer to email with instructions).

The following graph is an EXAMPLE of how advisement is provided through MCCAMC. Use the graph below to identify if you need to meet with your major department and/or the SRC/EOP Satellite prior to planning your FALL 2021 registration semester. NOTE: Rec. = Recommended, Req. = Required.
