CSUN Mentor Connect

For Mentors

Are you an experienced Matador looking for a professional volunteer opportunity to give back to your community and make a true difference? CSUN Mentor Connect is an online peer mentoring program that matches experienced Matadors with new students in need of guidance and direction to provide clarity, confidence, and support when needed. The program fosters a sense of purpose through major and career exploration, professional identity development, campus engagement, and a sense of belonging. Career readiness is promoted by pairing sophomores, juniors, and continuing students with incoming students to explore co-curricular and professional experiences that complement academic preparation.
By signing up to become a volunteer mentor, you will be matched with a number of mentees for a year to guide and support them through their academic journeys at CSUN.

Tip #1

Have Empathy

Understanding how your mentee feels is vital to connecting with them on a deeper level.

Tip #2

Share Resources

Unsure if a student needs more than a recommendation to use a resource? Mental health concerns and needs outside of general advice should be referred to professional staff in the Office of Student Success using the platform’s “flag” feature.

Tip #3

Offer Encouragement

Provide a safe relationship where they can ask questions, share ideas, and vent frustrations.
