SALARY:               $5,487.13 - $7,353.29 Monthly

$65,845.56 - $88,239.48 Annually

DEPARTMENT:    Nutrition Services

DESCRIPTION: Directs and conducts various program activities of the District’s CalFresh Healthy Living Grant. Serves as a fully qualified resource for nutrition education materials and information for teachers, administrators, parents, and students in the District. Assists with the development and promotion of the District’s nutrition programs. This position will be funded 100% by the CalFresh Healthy Living Grant. 

CURRENT VACANCY: One full-time Classified Management position (12 mos./yr., 8 hrs./day), with full benefits, at Nutrition Services. The current position is grant funded for a period of two (2)   years.

Provides nutritional expertise for the development and planning of the District’s wellness policies and programs. 

Researches, collects, and develops scientifically based nutrition education materials. Reviews and screens all nutrition education information for accuracy.

Orders, maintains, and reviews all nutrition education materials prior to distribution to teachers, students, and/or public.

Makes recommendations about nutrition education outreach and participates in the District’s health promotion efforts. 

Assists with coordinating and scheduling the District’s nutrition education activities with the District’s Student Wellness Services Department and site administrators.

Attends meetings as needed to promote Glendale Unified School District’s nutrition education efforts and obtain and provide information, regulations, procedures and standards, discuss concerns, plans, improvements, and any other matters relating to Child Nutrition Services and the District’s nutrition education program. Meetings may be with the District personnel, student groups, advisory councils, professional organizations, community representatives, parent, and/or the general public. Meetings may be held in the evenings, on weekends, and outside the District.

Conducts, attends and teaches in-service training courses for administrators, teachers, food service staff, nurses, and others regarding nutrition education and physical activity.

Prepares required reports for CalFresh Healthy Living Grant, including but not limited to budget, invoices, interim and final progress reports, scope of work updates, and project summary.

Maintains proper documentation required by the CalFresh Healthy Living Grant.

Develops and maintains strategies to incorporate healthy foods into the District’s Nutrition Service menus, including fundraisers, after school programs, etc. Assists in maintaining and revising District- wide Health and Wellness policy, as needed.

Updates the District wellness website as needed and performs related duties as required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Minimum Requirements:

A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetics or a related field. Experience in food service administration.

License or Certificate:

Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietician.
Valid Class C California driver’s license for off-site travel to a variety of community sites and meetings throughout the region.

 

Physical Abilities: 

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods. Position requires the ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.


Desirable Qualifications:

Written and oral proficiency in a second language. Bilingual Armenian and/or Spanish preferred.
