In March, the  Marilyn Magaram Center  will be celebrating  National Nutrition Month® as an opportunity to raise awareness about healthy eating and nutrition through interactive social media posts and hybrid events. With the return to on-campus learning and the spring semester already underway, the MMC has “sprung” into action as we remain dedicated to fulfilling our mission and vision through the valuable contributions of all those who are helping to advance our commitment to research, education, and community service in the fields of nutrition, dietetics and food science. The development and training of students on the path to becoming future professionals continues to be our highest priority, and we are proud to further these efforts in supporting CSUN and the community at large by providing both in-person and virtual resources, tools, and learning opportunities that are widely accessible and in alignment with the university’s protocols for campus repopulation. The Marilyn Magaram Center is excited to virtually implement “Prevent T2,a CDC-recognized lifestyle change program for diabetes prevention. Over the course of 1 year, the Prevent T2 program offersapproximately 24 hours of instruction to help people with prediabetes prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes Participants qualify for the program by meeting several criteria, one of which is that they must fall into the pre-diabetic range.   Read more

Since 1991, the Marilyn Magaram Center (MMC) has been dedicated to its mission of enhancing and promoting health and well-being through research, education and services in food science, nutrition and dietetics, and all we have accomplished in that endeavor over the last 30 years has reached far beyond our imagination. Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, Philip Magaram, on August 22, 2021.

Tower Cancer Research Foundation Workshops

Tower Cancer Research Foundation’s patient support division has teamed up with the Marilyn Magaram Center’s Nutrition and Wellness Clinic to bring free monthly nutrition classes to cancer patients and survivors. The series is taught remotely via Zoom where participants are able to sign up for presentations on various evidence-based nutrition topics. The nutrition science lecture is led by Shely Salemnia, MS, RD, CLEfollowed by a cooking demonstration by Jenica Smith, MMC Project CoordinatorUC Master Gardener and the MMC’s own Andreas George recently joined the team as the Garden Coordinator, teaching participants about how they can easily grow various vegetables at homeThese workshops are being developed and presented based on the interests of the participants.   Read more
