The Marilyn Magaram Center has transitioned to hybrid operations in compliance with CSUN’s COVID-19 measures, with modifications to our schedule as follows:

Virtual operations:
Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm

Open to the public:
Monday 8:30am-12:30pm
Tuesday 8:30am-4:30pm
Wednesday 8:30am-4:30pm
Thursday 8:30am-12:30pm
Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

Office hours are subject to change. If you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact us at or 818-677-3102. We will communicate updates through our site, MMC Virtual Events, and our social media platforms according to the latest available information. Special Announcement

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Magaram on August 22, 2021. The Marilyn Magaram Center was established by Phil and his family in 1991 as a tribute and memorial to Marilyn, who was an alumna and faculty of CSUN.

 Thrive with Diabetes is our free online diabetes management program that teaches you how to properly manage your diabetes through a number of avenues.


PreventT2 is for individuals living with pre-diabetes or are at-risk for developing diabetes.

Since 1991, the Marilyn Magaram Center (MMC) has been dedicated to its mission of enhancing and promoting health and well-being through research, education and services in food science, nutrition and dietetics, and all we have accomplished in that endeavor over the last 30 years has reached far beyond our imagination. Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, Philip Magaram, on August 22, 2021.

Tower Cancer Research Foundation Workshops

Delicious Food

Tower Cancer Research Foundation’s patient support division has teamed up with the Marilyn Magaram Center’s Nutrition and Wellness Clinic to bring free monthly nutrition classes to cancer patients and survivors. The series is taught remotely via Zoom where participants are able to sign up for presentations on various evidence-based nutrition topics. The nutrition science lecture is led by Shely Salemnia, MS, RD, CLEfollowed by a cooking demonstration by Jenica Smith, MMC Project CoordinatorUC Master Gardener and the MMC’s own Andreas George recently joined the team as the Garden Coordinator, teaching participants about how they can easily grow various vegetables at homeThese workshops are being developed and presented based on the interests of the participants.   Read more

Virtual MMC Staff Retreat and Paint Party

In appreciation of our amazing staff, the MMC held a virtual staff retreat and paint party on October 6, 2021. With guidance from Lisa Ter-Minasian, artist and owner of Finding Mona Lisa, we had a wonderful opportunity to learn how to paint our own interpretations of Van Gogh’s renowned Sunflowers.  Read more

Healthy Growers Training

Enduring the COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us of the importance of building resilient communities. At the MMC Wellness Garden, we believe one of the most effective ways to do so is to educate our community in the art and science of growing our own food. The team has put a lot of work into revamping our Healthy Growers Training program, a four-week long course that covers the basics of vegetable gardening.
