FAQ's - Updated 7/22/21

I am interested in enrolling into BUS 497B Small Business Capstone for fall 21. How do I apply?

BUS 497B – Small Business Capstone

A course that satisfies the capstone requirement through experiential learning as part of a student consulting team working with a local small business client. Student teams engage with the client throughout the course and conduct a comprehensive business assessment, analyze a current challenge, and deliver recommendations in the form of a client report and professional presentation.

The project follows a structured consulting process that includes client meetings associated with each milestone (intake, analysis, and findings) leading up to the final report and client presentation. This is an opportunity for students to gain practical experience analyzing real client problems with the supervision and support of the Capstone instructor.

Enrollment in the course requires instructor permission, 3.0 cumulative GPA, graduating senior, resume, writing sample, and interest for wanting to enroll in the class.

1) Click on the following link and enroll into the BUS497B Canvas page. Once enrolled, you will need to upload your DPR and indicate which of the two sections you are interested in.

2) The Management Department will then determine your eligibility based on your cumulative GPA (3.0+ GPA) and declared Graduation date (Fall 2021).

3) Once eligibility is confirmed, the management department will comment on your submission and let Professor Foley know you are eligible. Students will then e-mail the instructor with their current professional resume and a writing sample of approximately 5-pages (from any business coursework completed at CSUN).

3) The instructor will then reach out to you to set up a 20-minute Zoom interview to discuss your interest and assess fit for the course.

4) Once the student is determined to be a good fit for the course, the instructor will issue you a permission number to enroll in the course for the Fall  2021 semester.

Students who do not meet eligibility can self- enroll into BUS 497A Capstone.

Management majors & MGT 360

Management majors:  If you have not taken MGT 360, Management and Organizational Behavior, please be aware that you must achieve a grade of ‘C’ or higher to proceed to other MGT courses. So, if you get a grade of ‘C-‘ or lower, you will have to repeat MGT 360 before you can take any other MGT courses, likely delaying your graduation by a semester. No exceptions.
