Appointment Policies

- Appointments are 45 minutes and usually begin on the hour.
- Consultants will help you with any reading, writing, or presentation-based assignment or project. Consultants cannot help with take-home exams without written consent from the professor.
- If you are more than 10 minutes late to your appointment, you will be considered a “No Show” and your session may be given to a drop-in student.
- Only active, registered CSUN students and TSENG College students can book appointments.
- If you are a CSUN alum, please visit the Alumni Association and Career Center for alumni support opportunities.
- Students are limited to two appointments per location per week.
- These appointments may not be back-to-back with the same consultant.
- You will not be able to make additional appointments until your current appointments are completed.
- If you would like additional consultations, you may attempt a "drop-in" appointment; scroll down for more information.
- To schedule a group appointment, either call (818) 677-2033 for assistance, or have one group member book through EAB and email onlinelrc@csun at least one business day in advance with the names and student IDs of all group members; please note that consultants can only review content created by members who are present.

We will do our best to accommodate you, but drop-ins are not guaranteed. Please make sure to always have your email open and turn on push notifications when you're waiting for a drop-in! You may need to wait for some time. We recommend that you make a scheduled appointment to guarantee that you are seen.

- From your Dashboard, click "Schedule Appointment or View Drop-in Availability."
- Under "Other Options," click "View Drop-in Times."
- Select "Learning Resource Center (LRC)" and pick the appropriate service.
- Click the center name again, then select "Check-in with first available" for the best chance of being seen or use the drop-down menus to search for a specific consultant.
- If a consultant becomes available, they will send you their personal Zoom link via EAB messages. Please check your messages every 10 minutes.
- If you do not respond within 10 minutes, you may be removed from the drop-in waiting list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Our consultants also specialize in resumes, personal statements, cover letters, reports, and presentations. Our Faculty Writing Consultants are also CSUN lecturers who teach in various disciplines; they can help with a wide range of projects. Our Peer Writing Consultants are upper-level and graduate students from a variety of disciplines who are ready to share their knowledge with you.
Please let us know how we can best accommodate you by emailing onlinelrc@csun. Note: You are welcome to bring your own ASL interpreter, although our consultants are also happy to communicate with you in writing or by typing in the Zoom chat.
We will be happy to add your name to your instructor’s personal CSUN Box Spread Sheet. Please let your consultant know that you would like proof of attendance provided to your professor at the beginning of your appointment. They will need your professor’s email address. Your instructor’s spreadsheet should be updated at least once per week.
Absolutely not! We are standing by to help you at any stage of your process, from understanding the prompt, to brainstorming your ideas, to proofreading that final draft, and everything in between. Just make sure to bring the things you need to have a successful appointment, whatever your focus. Some suggestions are the directions/prompt, your textbook, source materials, research, and any brainstorming ideas or drafts you might have. But remember: we work with you from wherever you are in the process!
Yes, we offer in-person or online group appointments for students working on a group assignment or project; please call (818) 677-2033 for assistance. Alternatively, one group member can make the appointment in EAB and then email onlinelrc@csun at least one business day in advance to have the other group members added. Please include each group member's name and student ID in your email. Please be aware that consultants can only look at content when the author is present; if some group members are missing, we will only be able to discuss the parts of the work that were completed by group members who are present.
We welcome and encourage feedback on all of our services! Your feedback will be anonymous and will be used to improve our services.
To best serve all students’ needs, you will be limited to two pre-scheduled appointments per week per location (online and in-person), and only two pending appointments per week per location at a time. These appointments may not occur back-to-back with the same consultant on the same day. You may attempt up to 2 drop-in appointments each day for additional or last-minute assistance. You may come to the LRC (University Library, Third Floor, East Wing) during business hours to attempt an in-person drop-in or use the “drop-in” function in EAB to attempt an online drop-in appointment. Drop-ins are not guaranteed.
It's possible (but unlikely) that we're just booked solid, but please check the following to be sure:
- Make sure you selected Learning Resource Center (LRC) as the "care unit." Some other tutoring centers with different availability also use the system.
- Check your filters. If you are searching only for in-person appointments or only for appointments with a specific tutor, it is possible that there just aren't any available right now.
- Consider the system's limitations. As explained in the question above, students are limited to two appointments per location per week and can only have two pending appointments in each location at a time. The system should not display any appointments if you already have two appointments scheduled. This means you must cancel an existing appointment if you'd like to reschedule.
- You may be trying to schedule too far out. Appointments can be scheduled up to 2 weeks in advance.
- You can call us at (818) 677-2033 during business hours to check availability and make an appointment over the phone if one is available.
- Even if you cannot find any available appointments in EAB, you can still attempt to be seen as a drop-in. We have written instructions and a quick tutorial video about drop-ins to help you.
Unfortunately, we are not able to assist you with coursework from a different campus, even if it is another CSU. We are happy to help with personal projects that are unrelated to a class at all, but you will need to go to your other institution's tutoring center for help with non-CSUN classes.
