Cyber Security as a Whole
As we wrap up this year's Cyber Security Month, CSUN strives to keep its employees and students notified and strives to protect them from cyber incidents.
A few things to remember:
- Practice Good Password Management
Keeping your passwords safe and secure is one of the simple ways you can help prevent attacks. For more information on how to practice good password management Visit Week 1 of the Cyber Security Awareness month
- Keep Informed About Phishing
Staying informed about different techniques attackers use to phish helps protect you and the information you contain. For more information and updated examples of phishing please visit Week 2 and CSUNS page Phishing Examples.
- Sign up for Multifactor Authentication
Multi-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to your online accounts. Verifying your identity using a second factor (like your phone or other mobile devices) prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password.
Why Cyber Security is Important
Cybersecurity is defined as the protection of computer systems from system networks theft, damage, or disruption. In many instances cyber security will come in the form of ad-blocking or the form of an alert; however, as regular users of technological devices, we can inform ourselves about actions we can take to help prevent network threats.
Personal information and company information may be stored on your workstations and devices. Knowing how to protect your information and your devices is one of the key ways we keep our own identities safe. Being cyber safe does not only affect the user but also affects any Personal Identifiable Information stored on your devices.
Being knowledgeable about cyber security provides an extra layer of security and helps prevent the possibility of potentially being compromised.
Below are informational sites on the different ways you can keep yourself and others safe from cyber threats.

Cyber Security Starts with You
Essentially the user is responsible for the safety and integrity of the company and personal information. As the user obtains more information, the user should have the ability to accurately and efficiently protect all information. Your security and ultimately the security of others rely on the decisions you make as you search the world wide web. Keeping our identities and others safe requires an effort that we all have to put in. No one wants to have a possible compromised account; being cyber secure and cyber smart play an essential role in the integrity of company information.
Knowing how to detect and read malware threats gives the user control in every cyber threat attempt. For example, spotting phishing emails becomes useful if you receive an email from an unknown user urging you to enter your information on a CSUN lookalike login page. Lucky you have been exposed to recent phishing scams and know that an emailurging you to click on a link and enter your personal information should be considered suspicious and should be verified.
Being cyber aware is a preventative measure we must all take to keep everyone Cyber Secure.
