Impact to users: High
IT and the appropriate campus committees have completed initial testing of Microsoft’s latest operating system – Windows 7. Windows 7 is fully supported by the university; however, there is no recommendation to actively deploy across campus at this time. Windows 7 can be installed when deemed appropriate, but many campus PCs do not meet the minimum hardware requirements for this operating system. In addition, some software used on campus, such as the Kurzweil 3000 assistive software, is not currently compatible.
IT is planning to install Windows 7 on new computers as they are installed and on older equipment upon specific request if the minimum hardware standards are met. Windows 7 will only be installed if known software compatibility problems do not exist. Please note that Windows XP will be supported by Microsoft through April, 2014.
