Phishing Attack at CSU Stanislaus

January 27, 2016

No Phishing graphic, fish hook.

The CSU was alerted last night to a fairly wide spread Phishing attack that targeted CSU Stanislaus. Attackers sent a email to the campus employee community that included a fairly believable mock up of their authentication login page.

Users were prompted to input information which could have been harvested for further attacks. Approximately 500 staff and faculty clicked on the link before the campus became aware and shut down access to the suspicious website and links. There is no indication that any data was breached and the campus has taken steps to reset passwords and secure accounts.

Although CSUN was not the target of this attack, it's important to recognize fraudulent emails, should you receive one. To protect yourself, check out these tips for avoiding fraudulent emails and remember that the best method to prevent these attacks is to never enter your CSUN user ID and password in response to an email request.
