CSUN Account Activation

This page provides a quick-start guide for new students, faculty and staff – as well as authorized visitors – to activate their CSUN account.

Students - After You Apply

Follow the instructions below to activate your CSUN account:

After you have applied to CSUN via Cal State Apply, you will receive an “Activate Your CSUN Account” email from the Office of Admissions sent to the address you provided in your online application. You should receive the email within one or two days of applying.

The steps above activate both your CSUN email address and CSUN Portal account.

For assistance, contact the IT Help Center.

Once you’ve activated and secured your CSUN account, sign in to the CSUN Portal using your CSUN email address and password.

Check the CSUN Portal regularly so you won’t miss important communications – including an admissions decision.

With the portal, you’ll also be able to:

  • Get updates about your application.
  • View your Checklist for important next steps or missing documents.
  • Access your official CSUN student Gmail account.

Learn more about the CSUN Portal or visit the How-To Guides.

The university will send official communications to your CSUN student email account. Check it regularly so you don’t miss important information.

You can forward your CSUN email to a personal inbox, but be sure to add the CSUN senders’ email addresses to your contact list so the messages aren’t filtered as spam.

If you set up automatic forwarding through your CSUN email account, you’ll have the option to “Keep Gmail’s copy in the inbox.” Then, if a forwarded message is lost, you can still read the stored copy in CSUN email.
